I submitted a local baseball story to PBS's THE TENTH INNING website (about Ken Burns' upcoming baseball documentary) yesterday. This morning I awoke to an acceptance email.
I'm thrilled because my hometown player, Eli Gooselaw, was amazing but never got wide enough recognition in my book...
I grew up across the pasture from Eli when I was a little girl and never knew this about him until a few years ago. It just goes to show you, you never know who may be walking in your midst...
http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~mnrrvn/Essay-Gooselaw-Team.html has a lot more about Eli
ReplyDeleteI'm going to visit the Warren Sheaf newspaper, which is near where my new job is at the library, and get documentation to help with getting Eli into the Minnesota Amateur Baseball Hall of Fame!
I just realized (found out the details via Ancestry.com) that my Aunt Frances, who was married to my Dad's brother, my Uncle Robert, and whose maiden name was Gooselaw, was the daughter of Lawrence Gooselaw, and Lawrence's brother was...Eli! I swear, it's like everyone knows everyone and/or is related to everyone else up home!
