Cousin Lori may be able to tell who's who from our family, but if Allen Gamble (age 13) is listed, L Gamble is Lewis or Louie (age 11). Their sisters: 'Kae' would be 10 and was probably listed as Dorothy [her given name] but could be Kathleen; Frances would be 8 and if my Grandma Billie [Wilhelmina] is in school would be about 7.

It may be possible to figure out who was enrolled in school at that time, even if we couldn't put names to faces. The school cards are at the History Center but may be subject to privacy rules. I will check next time I go, but can't say when that will be.

    Hi, Trish,
How certain is the date on the 1915 St. V. school photo posted on your blog? The reason I’m asking is that I heard back from my dad’s cousin, Ivan Turner, son of Leonora (“Lennie”) Lucas Turner. His mother, Leonora Lucas, is in the photo---her name was one listed on the back. She was known as “Lennie.” Ivan is a reliable source in the family. He thinks that Uuanitia (“Una”) Lucas is the girl in the white dress with pigtails, standing in the middle of the 2nd row from the top. He also thinks that the boy next to her (2nd child on 2nd row from the top) is her brother, Vernon Revere Lucas, standing to her left, the one in the dapper suit with his hair slicked! If so, this picture would have to be earlier than 1915. He thinks it may be as early as 1911. He also said that his mother, Leonora/Lennie Lucas (later married to Will Turner) is the small, dark-haired girl in front of her sister, Uuanitia (Una) Lucas. This would make Leonora/Lennie the 4th girl from the left on the 3rd row down from the top. I had previously picked out the girls that I thought might be Lennie and Una Lucas, and he confirmed my prediction, but he surprised me by saying that the boy next to Una looks like my Grandpa Vern!

Below is part of his reply to me. Ivan says “the 3 of us” meaning his wife, daughter, and himself...they all viewed the photo and came to this conclusion I’m quoting here:

“I just discovered the St. Vincent photo can be enlarged and the 3 of us agree that Una is in the middle, Lennie in front of her, and we suspect that Vern is left of Una. If so, the photo is about 1911 !!! We sure need to talk with one another !! Is there any we can confirm the photo date ??”

Vernon Revere Lucas attended Pembina High School even though he lived in St. Vincent, graduating in 1915 at the age of 17. That’s part of the reason why this photo would have to be earlier if that is really him on the 2nd row from the top. Another reason we think this is earlier is that the girls look so young. Una was born in 1900 and Lennie in 1903, but they don’t look 15 and 12 in this photo.

You can tell we’re really excited about this photo because we have not seen pictures of our Lucas ancestors this young!
    Thanks again for posting it.
